Young people living in North Staffordshire and East Cheshire are being encouraged to get involved with a project that aims to teach a new generation important skills to protect the area’s heritage and keep traditional rural skills alive.
Does anyone want to create an area of woodland this winter? CVLLP Woodland Officer Tabi Kime is offering free trees to residents in the Churnet Valley Living Landscape area.
Are you interested in attending a chainsaw course to learn how to fell trees safely and in the right direction? Or do you know someone who's interested? CVLLP Woodland Officer Tabi Kime is organising a course - felling trees up to 15" diameter.

We have had a successful season clearing Himalayan Balsam this year but are now receiving reports from several sources that it has started to go to seed. A number of work parties are still planned across the area so please note the following advice if you are joining one of these.
The Churnet Valley Living Landscape Partnership and the Staffordshire Milepost Society with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and Moorlands Partnership and help from the County Highways Department have had a new Bobbin post cast and replaced on the Leek to Ashbourne Road.
Last year’s Himalayan Balsam “Big Pull” was a great success, as throughout the summer community groups and individual volunteers of all ages helped in the fight against this invasive species. From June to September over 800 volunteer hours were logged tackling the Balsam alongside the canals and waterways of the Churnet. Local scouts, anglers, canal and railway volunteers all pitched in to help, working on areas of the Churnet and Caldon Canal from Longsdon down to Alton.
We looking for existing and new local businesses in the Valley to help create an identity and raise the profile of what this landscape has to offer in local food production.

The Churnet Challenge was a big success with more than 30 12-16 year olds braving the wet weather to compete in their teams for the top prize at Consall Scout Camp.
