Autumn Sun and Autumn Food

October comes and with it varied weather, often cold and wet, so butterflies, bees and other insects are on the look out for a spell of warm sunshine as they fill up on food supplied by late flowering plants. One of the favourite plants is also one of the most common which I spend much time trying to remove from my garden, that is Ivy. Luckily I will never succeed in eliminating Ivy from my garden so each autumn I wait for it to flower and the show to begin. Each year varies both in when the Ivy comes into flower and what comes to feed on it. This year has been mainly Red Admirals, Commas, Bees and a variey of other small insects.
