On a sunny October Friday the ARCO Sector Sales Team converged on sleepy Thorswood Nature Reserve to rebuilt a recently collapsed dry stone wall. The team, from as far afield as County Durham and Kent met for a business meeting in Leek on the Thursday. On Friday they joined Keith Tomkins (Churnet Valley Project Manager) and Andrew Brown-Jackson (Dry Stone Walling Instructor) to lend some muscle and rebuild the wall.
The ARCO team were really pleased that their volunteering made such an immediate difference to the condition of the nature reserve, and when finding so much wildlife using the wall itself, including a large toad, were able to see how important these traditional countryside features are for the landscape and for wildlife.
Andy Owen from ARCO said, "A massive thank you to the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust from all of the team for the great hospitality, and an amazing day’s dry walling. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and were blessed with the Staffordshire weather. Our thanks extend to Andrew (the walling instructor) His enthusiasm was contagious"
