Himalalyan Balsm Photo by Erica Martin The Churnet Valley Living Landscape Partnership (CVLLP) is asking for your help again over the summer to tackle the Himalayan Balsam. You can either help by removing the plants whilst out walking or come along and join one of the partners’ work parties. Over the last couple of years the community effort to remove Himalayan Balsam in the “Big Pull” has been a great success and these are some of the work parties planned during “Big Pull” Fortnight 27th June-12th July;
Froghall – Mon. 29th June 7-9p.m. - Inland Waterways Association (IWA) & Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust (CUCT)
Consall Station – Thurs. 2nd July 10a.m-4p.m - IWA & CUCT
Cheddleton Top Lock - Sun. 5th July 10a.m-4p.m- IWA & CUCT
Longsdon Caldon Leek Arm - Mon. 6th July 7-8:30p.m- IWA & CUCT
Dimmingsdale- Weds. 8th July 10.am-3p.m. – CVLLP Practical Projects
Bridge 70 Uttoxeter Canal –Thurs. 9th July 10a.m-4p.m- IWA & CUCT
The Holly Bush Denford- Fri. 10th July 7-9p.m. - IWA & CUCT.
Last year from June to September over 800 volunteer hours were logged tackling the Balsam alongside the canals and waterways of the Churnet. Local scouts, anglers, golfers, canal and railway volunteers all pitched in to help, working on areas of the Churnet and Caldon Canal.
