The Sustainable Woodland Project needs a new person to volunteer one day a week as a Assistant Woodland Advisor. This is an exiting opportunity to gain valuable work experience, whilst developing skills in conservation and woodland management. The role will involve working alongside the Woodland Officer, to get woodlands into sustainable woodland management.
The volunteer role will be mostly office based, with some outdoor work such as site visits and woodland survey work. It is likely to involve assisting with mapping woodland features, species research, design of publicity, GIS mapping, surveying invasive species, collating advisory information, helping run events, writing press releases, climate change adaptation research, letter writing, obtaining contractor quotes, assisting with management plans, assisting with timber measurement, species data research, woodfuel surveys and work shadowing site visits and tree marking.
Use of a car/driving license would be helpful and mileage travel expenses are available. Full support, training and supervision will be provided.
If you're interested please email tabi.kime@rspb.org.uk, explaining why you are interested in woodland conservation, what existing skills you can bring to the role and what future skills you would like to develop.
