Hay meadows are now rare and knowledge about their management is also being lost. We will take a visit to a species-rich hay meadow in the heart of the Churnet Valley to consider the benefits and methods of traditional hay management. We will learn about why hay meadows are important not only for wildlife, but for farmers too.
Conservation grazing is an important management technique to maintain a variety of habitats. This session will look at grazing on grassland sites and consider stocking levels, livestock type, breed and timings of grazing.
This event is open to all but preference will be given to members of Churnet Valley Farmers.
Lunch will be provided so booking is essential.
