We were sent this photo the weir for the Alton Mill Leat by Keith Thomkins to use in our Facebook Friday photo challenge and here is what he says about it:
It's the weir for the Leat. To the left of the picture there is an old sluice gate and a bridge over the route of the leat. You can then follow the route of the leat (as a linear depression) all the way to Alton Mill. It was still in use when the Uttoxeter Canal was built and replaced by the railway. One day it'd be good to 'stabilise' the weir, protect the sluice and bridge works as part of a project to secure the wildlife and built heritage of this valley of outstanding beauty.
This is accessible from the Churnet Way, disused railway line between Oakamoor and Denstone.
