This section of the Churnet river bed has been restored!
Denstone Parish Council bought the field near Quixhill Bridge. Historically this section of the Churnet had been over dredged, creating steep river banks. The restoration has remodelled the river banks so that now there is a gentle slope. This has been undertaken as a local community project, with guidance from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, and will hopefully become a great place for people to enjoy nature.
A possible next step is to fence the river off so that trees can be planted to stabilise the bank and keep the water cool. The cool waters of the Churnet are ideal for fish and invertebrates.
