Children from Waterhouses Primary School in Waterhouses are helping the Lafarge Cauldon cement plant in Cauldon Lowe to celebrate its 60th anniversary. They have designed a healthy living calendar.
Pupils in Nursery to Year 6 put their creative skills to good use and came up with posters on the theme of healthy living for every month of the year, from which 12 winning designs were picked for the calendar.
The winning designs included these healthy living tips:
- wrap up and keep warm in the winter
- brush your teeth regularly
- eat healthy food
- wear sun hats, glasses and sun cream in the summer
- don’t over indulge in sweets at Christmas
The lovely calendars were professionally printed by Lafarge Cauldon and given to parents before Christmas. All the winners received book vouchers from Lafarge Cauldon.
Mrs Anne Lockey, Headteacher at Waterhouses C of E (VC) Primary School, said: “Our pupils enjoyed taking part in the calendar competition, especially with it being Lafarge Cauldon’s anniversary year. Living a healthy lifestyle is a regular topic at school and so the children had lots of inspiration to come up with some really creative and interesting ideas.”
Martin Bains, plant manager for Cauldon Cement Works, said: “This is a very important year for our plant and we were delighted that the school was able to take part in producing a very special anniversary calendar celebrating 60 years of cement production. We run a ‘Healthy You’ initiative with our employees to reinforce the messages about keeping fit and healthy and it was great to see so many important themes picked up by the pupils.”
Cauldon Cement Works, part of Lafarge Holcim, produces approximately 1m tonnes of cement per annum of which approximately 25 per cent is dispatched in 25 kg bags. The plant employs around 150 staff at its Cauldon plant.
