The Churnet Valley Living Landscape supported by Heritage Lottery funding project is turing to film, social media and smart phones to bring to life the stories behind the food producers of the beautiful Churnet Valley through the innovative farmers on film #onyourdoorstep web series. Short films on the passion, pride and produce of the farmers and food producers of the Churnet Valley have been commissioned to showcase the story about our local food production and showcasing the stunning local environment where it is produced.
The concept was born from a recent graduate of Staffordshire University, Adam Sandy, who as a first year undergraduate took part in the original farmers on film project which went on to win a podium medal as part of the London 2012 celebrations. Adam recently set up Adam and Ant Films and had the idea to get stories of local farmers to the general public in a totally engaging way through social media and will be using QR code technology to promote the films.
The first film to be released for the web series will feature the Adcock family from Moorlands Fine Foods in Ipstones who specialise in producing Dexter beef and sells it at local farmers' markets, which includes the Fine Food Festival held in Leek on the third Saturday of each month. Stephen and Sharon Adcock both featured on the web series film trailer which has already received over 440 hits. The film trailer was first show in Australia at the International Rural Women's Conference where Sarah Gayton, the founder of farmers on film, presented the keynote speech. Sarah, who is a passionate member of the Women's Food and Farming Union stated 'I am so excited to see the #onyourdoorstep web series becoming reality with the launch of the first film at the Staffordshire County Show. So many people have supported farmers on film who visit the show and it was the natural place to premiere the first film. We will be sharing the film on social media, through twitter @farmersonfilm, Facebook and many other channels and we are so excited to see how far the film travels once it is released! The Women in Food and Farming Union is passionate about connecting consumer with producer and this concept does it using modern smart phone technology and social media, and we are hoping to expand with more films to tell more stunning stories of the farmers behind our food!"
The films have been made possible with a grant from the Heritage Lottery funds and aim at giving the general public an opportunity to learn more about how, who and where our food comes from. They are produced in the Staffordshire Moorlands and to give visitors into the area an opportunity to find out where they can get a true taste of the area. Further films from Staffordshire Cheese and Wheat Brothers who produce their own milk will be released through out the summer at key events in Staffordshire and surrounding areas.
