Seems to have been forgotten! The Valley put itself forward to Natural England for consideration regarding designation as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty several years ago.
Over the years I have heard and read about the tunnels running under the village of Alton. I have had it confirmed that they link the public houses giving access via their cellars so you can understand the locals not being willing to divulge anything.
Today we were seed harvesting at Side Farm Meadows, near Cotton Dell. The Churnet Valley volunteers were harvesting seed to be taken to the grassland restoration project at Tittesworth.
We collected lots of knapweed and great burnett.
